ABOUT VIDYALAYA

The Government of India was launched a scheme to establish on an average, one Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) in each district in the country, with the following objectives. To provide good quality modern education including a strong component of culture, values, environment awareness and physical education to talented children in rural areas without regard to their family’s socio-economic condition. To ensure that all students of Navodaya Vidyalaya attain a reasonable level of competence in three languages as envisaged in the three-language formula.

To provide good quality modern education, including a strong component of culture, inculcation of values, awareness of the environment, adventure activities and physical education – to the talented children predominantly from rural areas, without regard to their family’s socio-economic condition

Such education would enable students from rural areas to compete with their urban counterparts on an equal footing. The National Policy on Education-1986 envisaged the setting up of residential schools, to be called Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas that would bring out the best of rural talent.
